Saturday, Sept 21 - Flamenco!

I am writing this while sitting in the Madrid airport waiting to board my flight to Dallas.

Friday, yesterday, we took a ramble through Madrid looking to find a specific olive oil shop. This took us most of the morning and we were able to walk through different areas of the city. The shop ended up being in the upscale area. It’s so interesting to walk through the city and see how people dress and what the shops sell in different areas.

Having procured the amount of olive paste that we could each carry on board, we headed back to our digs for the planned late lunch at the place across the street: Brunchit. What a pleasure!

Good thing we didn’t notice it til yesterday or we would never have eaten anywhere else.

We returned to our casa and rested up for the big Flameco show we had scheduled. It was so exciting! I’m so glad we made time for this. The skill of those dancers is amazing! The ladies we so impressive especially dancing in what looked to me to be cumbersome dresses.

The fella was impressive also and it was really easy to see his feet!

Here is a clip, hope you can see it.

So I am on the plane right now and just settling in 2.5 hours of a 10 hour flight. Got a little bit of wine on board. An announcement come on the broadcast system: is there a medical professional on board? This harkens back to our trip back home from the UK last year when the same thing happened. I elbowed Russ and he got u to help. He was joined by a paramedics and an ER doc and together they determined that there was no need to turn back. The patient got a place in first class for the rest of the fight I hope the same is going on here. Turns out it was a woman this time and apparently whatever was happening did not require a turnaround.

Since I got off the plane I have met 2 sets of pilgrims. One did the Sarria to Santiago and the other the Northern Camino. They were in the same Belated state that all pilgrims enter upon their successful completion of their pilgrimage . I suggested to both sets that they seek out local chapter of the American Pilgrims. Hope they do.

Before we left our place this morning we both divested ourselves of everything we didn’t need to carry. Including our shoes. They served me well but I’m done with them. The poles were too long but they were better than nothing and the toe socks were a real pain in the butt! My pack is much lighter.

So here I am in Dallas with a 5 hour layover. Russ joined the admirals Club so you can bet I’m taking advantage of that.

So I will say adios to all. Thank you for joining me on my Camino and to all: Buen Camino!
