September 11-Bruma to Seguiero

 Gonna try to post something but the WIFI where I am is not so good. 

This was a day to remember, and I did. I can’t believe that it has been 23 years.

Gotta try to catch up, I think I missed a day. Please bear with me.

When we got to Hospital  we were unable to locate beds so we booked a place about 3k off the route, in Ordes. We took a cab but it really was close. The place was perfect, 2 beds, shared bathroom, kitchen and living room. After arriving, we searched for chow but alas! Nothing til 7:30 Same old story.

Along the way to Seguiero we had a late lunch at a cafeteria where the only chairs available were adjacent to two fellas from Ireland who were on their first Camiño. We fell into conversation and found that both of them were Anglican ministers. One, Brian has just retired and the other, Darron is still working.  Such a great happenstance! They laughed as Irishmen do, when I asked how their Camiño was going. I got an answer that told me that it was not going as expected. Basically,  they, like us had not booked places to stay before they came so they were spending a lot of time finding beds. 

Arrived in Seguiero in the drizzle at the place we had reserved which I can’t remember the name of right now. It was a private Albergue and was run like a clean and tight ship. We had a private room with 2 twin beds and a bathroom. We went around the corner and found the required wine, sat in the common area and had a couple. Then it was Nitey nite!

Tomorrow we walk into Santiago. 5km!

 We made it! Left the Albergue at 8:30 and walked the 15km with my pack. As an aside, I have observed that only 1 of 10 pilgrims on the Camino are carrying a full pack. Very interesting and very different from the last 2 Caminos I have done. In any event this walk was also in a light drizzle. We passed through old villages and some abandoned buildings. Here is one I would be happy to sell someone: The sign says “for sale.” There is no contact info, so how do you purchase? The woman who took this picture asked me what were the selling points? I answered “location” and sure enough here are the neighbors! On I went into what was called “the enchanted forest” Yep, pretty much looked like one. Cirila waited for me (she walks faster) and we entered the square in front of the Cathedral of Santiago at about 1:15pm. Uleria!! Saturday, Sept 21 - Flamenco!

 I am writing this while sitting in the Madrid airport waiting to board my flight to Dallas.  Friday, yesterday, we took a ramble through Madrid looking to find a specific olive oil shop. This took us most of the morning and we were able to walk through different areas of the city. The shop ended up being in the upscale area. It’s so interesting to walk through the city and see how people dress and what the shops sell in different areas.  Having procured the amount of olive paste that we could each carry on board, we headed back to our digs for the planned late lunch at the place across the street: Brunchit. What a pleasure! Good thing we didn’t notice it til yesterday or we would never have eaten anywhere else. We returned to our casa and rested up for the big Flameco show we had scheduled. Catching up - Thursday Sept 19

 Been busy. I forgot to fill you all in on a happenstance that I experienced before leaving Santiago on Tuesday morning. Left with a couple hours on my hand I headed out the door of our hostel and ran right into the Cathedral. Watching people enter I decided I would visit the church. There was a security guard checking purses and bags at the door and he asked if I was there for mass. I said no, just to visit. He said you have to come back at 10:30. Okay I said, I’ll go to mass. In I went. The funny thing about attending mass being said in another language (in this case Spanish) is that the responses that I usually say automatically in English totally fail me when the appropriate time hits. In other words, when it came time to say the Lord’s Prayer, because everyone was saying it in Spanish, I was unable to remember the words in English. Ya well that’s how my brain works, or doesn’t.  The surprise came at the end of masss when they broke out the Botafumerio ! This was 9:30 am. ...
